Resources

Students of Tenleytown T’ai Chi can access support materials for our classes and other helpful information here.

The
Files for Students page allows you to access printable files that may be handy to have on paper. These include notes from class, principles for practice, charts which show stepping stones along the way, and pocket cards for Verbal T’ai Chi (Suzette Haden Elgin’s The Gentle Art of Verbal Self Defense / GAVSD).

On the
Articles page you will find pieces, mostly short, on everything from Chinese Classic Writings to maintaining a Healthy Lower Back, to The Secret to Learning the T’ai Chi form.

T’ai Chi Extended Family features links to other teachers, both near and far, whose web sites have gems strewn throughout.

Videos has several video links. Of course it’s nearly impossible to learn from a video, but recordings of others doing the form can be immensely helpful to the prepared and supported learner!

Although T’ai Chi Ch’uan is a simple practice, requiring almost no special equipment or clothing, some things which fall under the category of “resources” are items you might want to buy. These might include
T’ai Chi shoes, T’ai Chi & Qi Gong books and books of Chinese Classic Writings. Other items may not be as directly related to T’ai Chi Ch’uan & Qi Gong, but you may be looking for them based on discussions we’ve had in class. This sort of thing can be found on the Books & DVDs that help page, and on the Pinhole Glasses & other things page.

Qi Gong students: An 18 Therapies PDF with pictures that may help to prompt you is now up on the Files for Students page. Also, I have been able to find some books you may want to look at. Suzanne Friedman’s book The Yijing Medical Qigong System: A Daoist Medical I-Ching Approach to Healing features the 5 Element Boundary meditation so many of you find helpful. The Way of Energy by Master Lam Kam Chuen offers a version of The Eight Brocades which is very similar to the one I favor. Links to both of these books can be found on the T’ai Chi & Qi Gong books - Buy Stuff page.
